Ubuntu. Windows. Mac-OS. Alienware. These are the most well-known operating system which are commonly used worldwide. Somehow, Windows dominates among the four. Aside of being user-friendly, it is affordable compared to Alienware and Mac-OS. Eventhough Ubuntu is free and it's open source, many people still love Windows. Let me ask you one question, do you want to learn some customization for your laptop or PC's to make it looks great? Well, let me teach you one technique.
Customization of you start orb is one technique in making your theme looks great. First of all, you will need to download the software Resource Hacker. This is a freeware utility to view and modify Windows executable resources. You can download it here! Install it to your system after downloading.
Let the customization begins!
1. Open Resource Hacker.
2. Click File, then Open or simply press CTRL + O.
3. There will be a pop-up. Look for Local Disk (C): , click the folder WINDOWS, the select and open
the explorer.
4. Click Bitmap. You are going to edit 6801, 6803, and 6809. Click one of these three, the right-click 1033.
5. Click Replace Resource. Then open new file with new bitmap. Locate the folder where you save your orbs(BMP format).
6. Repeat steps 4-5 for 6803 and 6809.
7. Click File, then Save or just press CTRL + S. Name it as explorer.exe .Save it anywhere you want
(but i prefer create new folder in desktop and save it there).
This is where the tricky part comes in.
8. Open My Computer. Local Disk(C): . Windows. Look for explorer.exe ,then right-click it.
9. Click Properties. Click the Security tab above. Then click Advance below.
10. Click Owner tab above. Your current owner will be SYSTEM. So you're going to click EDIT. Click
YES. Click Administrators. Click Apply. Then OK. Click OK again.
11. Right-click explorer.exe. Click Properties. Click the Security tab above. Then click Edit below.
12. Click SYSTEM. Then Click to check the box for FULL CONTROL. Do this also for Administrator and User. Click them both, one by one then check the box for FULL CONTROL.
13. Click OK. Then another OK.
14. Copy this explorer.exe to another location for back up purposes.
15. Go back to the folder where you save the explorer.exe which you have created with Resource
Hacker. Right-click then click copy or simply CTRL + C. Specifically, go to this location C:\Windows or click My Computer->Local Disk(C)->Windows then paste the explorer.exe here.
16. Press CTRL + ALT + DEL then click Task Manager. Click on Processes above. Right-click explorer.exe then click end process.
17. Click File. New task(Run). Type explorer.exe then hit OK.
There you go! You will have a new look in your Desktop now. You will have a cool start orb like mine!
